Any one done a muffler delete on a eco boost 2.3. I would like mine louder but not bumblebee sounding. And I will be real, my better half is about tired of me spending money on a brand new truck. And I could do this myself with some exhaust pipe I use at work.

It's a 4 cylinder, it's gonna sound like crap with no muffler just like any other 4 cylinder, along with annoying every living thing within a 4 block radius. Don't be that guy. There is literally nothing to be gained and no upside to doing this.

I've heard the turbo muffles the sound but again. Believe half what you hear. That's the point too. Dont want to be that guy

What about just removing the resonator? Think that would be obnoxious?

The resonator doesn't actually make the truck any quieter, it just changes the resonance frequency to a level that's not ringing your ears in the cab. Taking it off would just make the noise more obnoxious to you as you drive and have little to no effect on the way it sounds externally.

Man looks like she's gonna get mad. Had a Gibson on the sport track. Just not sure what it sounds like on the 4 banger

Drop the exhaust and start it so you know what it'll sound like before spending money for a muffler you'll hate. The best way to make a 4 or 6 cylinder sound better is to turn off the key.

I dunno, inline 6's can sound pretty nice when done right. My chevy 292 with dual exhaust headers sounded like an apache helicopter. But yea I've never heard a 4 cylinder sound "good".

I had a 2.3 with no cat and a Cherry Bomb.... it's on par with my straight piped 4.0... sounds awful. Four cylinder engines are meant to be seen and not heard.

I do like the sound of a 4.0 with a short exhaust system and a Flowmaster 40 series or knockoff though! Have that on both my 4 door Explorer and stepside truck, both are just about the right level of loud but no droning sound. But that would sound awful on a 4 cylinder.

Put a fart muffler on it, buy some pants that are too big and sag down, turn your hat around backwards and you can hang out with the Civic guys.

I run no muffler on my 98 3.0. Haven't had one complaint. Do still have the three cats and the resonators. And also, even with no muffler, my intake outdoes it when really on the gas hard. I hear it more than the muffler. I have two straight tips welded to a bent Y that is welded to the cat, with the tips sticking out Lighting style in front of the wheel. A friend of mine, his Dad thinks the truck has a V-8 under the hood. When I told him it was V-6, he was like "sounds really good."

My better half had a 2002 (I believe) Mazda Speed Protege with a 2.0 turbo and the factory exhaust was a straight through design and it had a really nice low rumble. not real high pitch and whiny. that's the sound I would like my Ranger to have. Sporty but not a bumblebee fart can
