friend has a 76 high pinion axle he wants to sell me with a second 79 axle for brake parts and spare axles. is it easier to move cast wedges in then outboard the coil buckets? has anyone done this? i know the 76 will have welded on wedges.

I imagine you are planning on keeping it full width and also mainly looking for your coils springs to be as straight as possible. If you are looking for the easiest route, the coil buckets would probably be your best bet and it would give you a chance to upgrade from your factory coil buckets. You can run offset coil buckets, like what James Duff offers, which makes offset coil bucket made for running full width axles. If you do run with that style with a flat back you may have shim one side if your frame has the indention in the frame behind your coil buckets. They are a lot more heavy duty than factory and also should help from your coils bowing running with that axle.

You can also take a full width 44 and cut 6" out of or off the passenger side tube to make it the same as a EB D44 axle. Then you get the high pinion and you can use bolt in suspension kit like Duff sells for a SAS.
