Max Tire size on 2003 Ford ranger XLT 4x4

I'm trying to figure out the max size of wheel and tire I can fit on my ranger with a Rough Country leveling kit which gives roughly an 1.5" of lift.

You're gonna get a few different answers here. For whatever reason... these trucks all seem like they vary a bit and what works on one doesn't work the same on another. Something else to consider is wheel width and backspacing... too wide or less backspace will cause clearance issues.

On my truck... I run 265/75/16's on 16x8 inch wheels with 4 inch backspace at factory ride height with no rub.

Thanks. Currently the wheels I'm looking at are Pro Comp 51 series 15x10 with a back space of 3.75 and an offset of -44.

That's pretty wide and less backspace then factory. Those are basically the wheels I was talking about above.

Currently a 32/11.5r15 BFG AT KO2. I've seen some people claiming to fit that size on same spec wheels as the ones I'm looking at with only a mild T-bar crank.

I had Procomp 33/11.5-15 MT tires on stock Alcoa wheels on my Ranger with just a 1.5" T-bar lift. They would rub occasionally with some flexing. I now have 33/10.5-15 AT tires on the same wheels and they rarely rub and only very slightly when they do. It takes some extreme flexing to get it to do it. I like the 33" tires much better because I get more ground clearance and have much less rubbing. Most people want wider tires, but I like the 10.5" wide tires. I feel in better control off road for some reason and visually they look fine to me.

The 10.5 are better unless you are in sand, to me. Other wise they are just more resistance on the road. From the side they look the same.


I have 34/11/20 on my full size nissan titan 4x4 on stock suspension. Any wider and i would have had to trim and cut stuff to fit them and gained nothing but noise on the highway and weight.

33X10.5r15 has a nice proportional look on a compact 4x4 truck. The pizza cutter look may not be for everyone but it's more functional in most situations.

I think you would need to get down to 33/9.5 tires before it get to the pizza cutter look. I thought they might look too narrow when I first bought a set but they don't look all that narrow to me. Probably a lot of that is; they fill the wheel wells a lot without a lift and you can't see a lot of the tire like you would with more of a lift.

I agree that wider tires would do better in the sand, but 33/10.5 tires still do better in the sand than 31/10.5 tires do because of a larger (longer) contact patch. I also never had much of a problem with 31/10.5 tires in the sand because I always aired down a lot when in the sand. That makes a big difference.
