I have a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 with a little over 224K and a bad transmission. I plan on replacing the transmission around Christmas and am starting a part list now. I am hoping to get all/most of the parts from Autozone, but am making this post for the best recommendations. The rear main seal was replaced about 5,000 miles ago, so I do not plan on replacing that. I plan on replacing the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, concentric slave cylinder, and transmission. I would like to supercharge this truck down the road, so high performance part recommendations are preferred. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The 4x4 part kind of limits the possibilities

4.0l has cologne bolt pattern, which further limits the choices

Ford bell housing cologne pattern seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ford_bellhousing_patterns#Taunus/Cologne_pattern

4.0l was the largest engine to use it

So the current M5OD-R1(M5R1) may be the only choice, and not a bad one, its surprising you have a problem with yours, generally they out last the vehicles they are in.
But anything can break

Sorry for my late reply, and thank you for the quick response! I did not receive any notification and just checked back after a busy week. I probably just need to update my notification settings, or check back more frequently. Unfortunately, I bought my truck used and later found out it came with a bad transmission. Also, thank you for the helpful information and link!
