I have a new to me 2004 4.0 sohc manual trans 4x4 that has a 3.40 first gear ratio. Does anyone know of any transmission’s with different ratios that will work? The 2.5 and 3.0 motors first gear trans have a 3.72 first gear. Will Internal gears swap out?

As far as I know you can change the internals, a lot of work though, much easier to change your differential ratio. I realize that would be 2 diffentials being a 4wd, but you could always get a complete rear axle from a salvage yard with a lower ratio and a front assembly that matches. Thats the route I would take myself. Welcome to T.R.S.
