Need some insight, got the parts truck dash out that’s running a 5 speed and manual case and thinking about swapping it into my truck, auto Trans and electric case. Would I be able to just swap in the trans, case, and third pedal without swapping the harness behind the dash? Then just run the manual computer? Wanted to know how that works.

Parts truck is a 92 ranger with the 4.0 and 5 speed manual case with power windows. Would be going into a 91 ranger 4.0 automatic with electric case and manual windows

The t-case and computer dont talk to each other... you're good there. For the engine, as long as the motors have the same sensors then the computer swap will work.

My credo
Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
There should also be a connector for the clutch switch in the auto harness, taped up above the pedals. It'll have a shorting jumper plugged into it for use with the auto; just unplug the jumper and then plug the connector into the clutch switch on the newly added clutch pedal.

I've done an auto to manual conversion on a '90 Bronco II using a '90 Ranger for the donor (both 2.9L and 2WD). On mine there were no differences on the ECM connector pin-outs, besides the auto shift solenoid output (which was simply not present on the manual ECM). So on mine the manual ECM simply plugged in to replace the auto ECM. BUT, yours being a little later, and 4.0L, I can't say if yours will be that easy. I used the wiring diagrams in the Ford EVTM to compare and confirm that mine were compatible without needing to re-pin any wires at the ECM connector.

The only other wiring that comes to mind, was the short harness underneath going to the transmission. On mine all I had to do change out the original auto short harness for the donor's manual short harness.

Hope that helps; good luck!

When I swapped engines in my ‘98, the harness connections for the transmission were different. Same engine, donor vehicle was an automatic and mine was a manual. I had to keep the original harness to make the new engine work.

Oh, and you’ll need the flywheel off the engine setup for the manual. All the auto has is a flex plate with the ring gear for the starter.

Okay now I'm really confused LOL. My truck is at 85 Ford ranger it's a 5-speed 4x4 and it's lifted. I want to buy a 1990 bronco 2 for $400 for the 302 that's in it and the zf5 transmission that's in it. He said the engine bay wiring harness is not there somebody already bought that. Can you tell me more specifically if this is going to be a big problem swapping this out thank you.

Without the wire harness, it will be a big problem.

Since you said 302 (vs. 5.0L) I am going to assume it is a carb engine, in that case converting to Duraspark II (blue connector) is very easy. Is the ZF a transmission for a 4x4 ? If so then you woudl need a NP-208 or simular transfer case with the shift levers.

Which wiring harness are you talking about
The one you said was already sold to someone else.

EDIT: Correction. That was in response to barbara’s post not you. This is an example why we discourage people hijacking other people’s threads. It creates confusion.
