anyone running manual brakes with aftermarket(i.e. bigger or smaller) master cylinders? I'm looking into an engine swap but I don't think the M/C will clear the DOHC heads on this motor. Obviously if it does I'll run the stock brake setup, but if not I'm going to have to figure something out. A friend suggested running cnc master cylinders with no booster for more clearance and i was looking for input on sizing. Thanks

i ran manual brakes briefly on mine. the older ranger diesel brake master cylinder can bolt to the firewall, and if you buy a new one comes with a rod that connects to your pedal just like the booster did

DOHC 6G72, not sure if it will clear. its a 60 degree V, so similar to our 3.0, but with DOHC heads and a little more stroke.

That was the suggestion I got from another forum too. That seems to be the way to go

After looking through all the hydraboost stuff, I'm going back to thinking about manuals. I don't think I can get an upgraded P/S pump that will run on that motor, and manual seems to be much simpler and cheaper. I was thinking just fab up a bracket to hold 2 M/Cs side by side, with a proportioning bar in between going to the stock lever. One friend suggested running a 1" M/C to the front and a 7/8" M/C to the back. Anyone see any issues with it?

It will work, but increasing the effective m/c bore will increase the required jpedal pressure, so go down to the gym and build up them leg muscles, your gonna need them.

Ok thanks, that's what i was looking for. So if I go smaller on the MC bore it will be less effort but more pedal throw to get the same pressure at the brakes, correct?
