does the extension piece from the m5od(4x4) bolt to the m5od hd? i am doing a swap and i was wondering if i could just get a m5od off a 2wd and just toss that 2wd tail piece and put on the extension housing and transfer case.

Haven't managed to check personally yet (I'm converting my 4cyl 2wd M5OD to 4x4), but there's substantial evidence that the output shaft lengths are different from 2wd to 4wd.

How much? I don't know. Which ones longer/shorter? I unfortunately don't know either.

However from HD to non-HD and vice versa, there should be no difference.

We're going to try this again because things look weird from my computer, I hope this isn't double posting. Got an error message when I posted my response last night, thread is listed as 0 replies, but says I've posted in it on the icon on the left. My response shows up when I open the thread but I don't know if anyone else can see it and it's just cashed on my machine. So anyways...

quote me from last night:

the output shaft is a different length. i am not sure if you can switch them from non hd and hd. idk what the internals are like between the 2 besides ratios and syncros.
to my understanding the transmission housing are the same between the hd and non hd with the exception of the 3.0 vs 4.0 bell housings. i just wanted to make sure
