My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
As the title states; m5OD-R1 manual transmission with 4x4 tail housing and 1350 manual transfer case. I am told that this will fit 2.3l 4 cylinder engines as dictated by starter mount on passenger side. I've done about an 85% external cleaning on it. Have NOT checked, drained or refilled fluids. The transmission shifter needs a shifter rebuild kit. The 2 pins that prevent the shifter from rotating are missing. I have included a picture of the Dorman kit that contains these parts. I temporarily installed the pins from a kit I have on the shelf so I could verify operation. It shifts through all forward and reverse gears and feels smooth when I rotate the input shaft by hand in each gear combination. Same for transfer case. Shifter knobs are effectively missing. Also have front drive shaft to go with it

I picked this up off FB marketplace because I feel sure that somebody on TRS will eventually want this as a replacement or to swap from electric t-case to manual.

$350.00 plus shipping or my fuel expenses to meet you somewhere reasonable for all of it. Located in Wellford, SC, that is northwest South Carolina just off of I-26 and I-85. Also close to I-77.

This us the rebuild kit you will need

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Man.. this setup was pretty close to being my holy-grail for a few years. If I wasn't already committed to mini-truck life with the '96 I'd be ALL OVER this and going SAS..

Glws.

If it had the 3.0l bellhousing, I would change the fluids and stick it in my truck immediately.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
the dang 3.0 units are not getting any cheaper. used to be 150 bux....perfect for gut swapping the 2.3 mazda l....that used to be the same price. not any more. several of my piknpuls are 750 for any engine and no warranty.

so to say the least...this is tempting.

I would prefer to keep it with the transfer case since a lot of them seem to get separated.

Do you need a 3.0 one?
Yes and no. If I had a 3.0 compatible M5OD, I could put this transfer case on it and get everything ready outside the truck. On the other hand, there is one in the truck right now. It just has the electric shift t-case on it. And I don’t recall if it has the holes drilled and tapped for the shifter. I might still have to do that.

Well, I have 2 3.0 cases. Neither of which I will use.

So if you were to bring this trans to the house, we could make you a 3.0 one….. and I could show you how to rebuild one (if you don’t already know).

Holes should be tapped but the front driveshaft is different between a 1350 and your 1354.

I have found that if you use the shaft from a TK equipped truck with the M5OD/13-50/D35 combo, you don’t have to shorten the shaft at all.

That's the way my truck has been setup since my D35 went in. (August 10th 2014) So 10 years now...

Well, now that’s a buzz kill.

so, any way I do it, I have to tear something apart and mix and match parts.

Not sure how well they mix and match.

I've never heard of anyone converting from a fixed front output to a slip yoke.

I looked into doing it to my NP205 which has massive aftermarket support and many applications across the big three, nothing out there to convert it either.
