Here is the dealio, I am rebuilding a friends transmission after he blew out second gear. Pulled it out today to take a peak inside, and all i see that really needs replacing is 2nd gear (He will be swapping to a C4 later this year, so it doesn't need to last forever). I called the dealer to get price/availability and they cannot find any internal gears at their or other dealerships and the parts have been obsoleted. Could someone lead me in the right direction for finding some internal parts? I live in san diego, but ordering from the internet would work just fine also. Thanks in advance-

any internal part you are likely to need is probably sitting in a
bin of similar parts in my garage.

so i decided to swap parts from a spare transmission that i have. Reading through the repair manual (from ford) it says that the nuts on the end of the main shaft and coutershaft are one time use. Since these parts are becoming harder and harder for me to find, has anyone just ended up reusing them? is there a way to pull the crimped part out without damaging the nut? BTW, i am working with only simple tools, and not too many of them at that-

The early output shaft (you have posted a picture of the later type) had that staking groove machined so that the edges were sharp and ths forcing the nut off over the staked portion would generally tear a chunk out of the nut.

that really isn't an issue with the later type shaft you have.

The cluster gear nut (the smaller one probably will tear, the issue is
to not have the old staked spot line up to the same point.

The easy way to accomplish that is to use the nut from a different
transmission (I make sure to NOT use the not on the same trans it
came off of)
