So a little background on why I joined the Ranger station. I was given a 1989 Ford Ranger that had been sitting since 2012. I figured that it would be a good project for my grandson and I. The paint job was all but gone and we sanded it down and found no Bondo and no rust. The body was in great shape. The interior on a scale of 1 to 10 was a 8, also in good shape. We rebuilt the 2.9 engine from the oil pan up and are in the process of installing lt. We identified all the wires that needed to be disconnected when removing the engine and marked location. I have attached photos of a wire that we found underneath the air cleaner housing and have no idea if it was hooked up or not. We can find no place in it's proximity to hook it up. Any help in identifying where this wire goes if it goes anywhere would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jim

I looked and my 86 has a dead end plug over there. It has about the same amount of wires, but it's black and round. It has a cap over the end like it was some sort of option. The only other things I see over there are the relays that mount to the inner fender. Are all those relay plugs accounted for?

My credo
Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
It's got me stumped, but I might can pin it down in the EVTM for you.

How many cavities does the connector have, and how many of the cavities actually have wires in them? It looks to me like it's 6 cavities, 4 having wires (counting double wires in one terminal as one wire).

It's a 1989 Ranger with 2.9L; what's the build date on the driver door safety compliance sticker, and does the truck have power locks and windows?

I have A 87 XLT and it has the same pigtail hanging without a mate. If you look careful at the section that plugs in you will see there hasn't been anything in there for a long time. It belongs under the black plastic cover where all the relays are attached to the fender. Think its for a accessory or an option from Factory. Dirty
