Hello everyone. My 2001 ranger 3.0/5spd manual has a loss of power around 3500-3600 rpm on the highway while doing 90 mph 🤫. Truck performs great otherwise and no check engine telltale. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Mine was doing something like that and it turned out to be a bad distributor rotor.

Are you sure you aren't hitting the internal speed limiter?

I wasn’t aware of these 2nd generation rangers having a limiter. What do they top out at? I usually don’t go that fast, just having a little fun on an open stretch of interstate 😎

90mph seems to be where the limiter is for the v6s, 99 or 100 for the 2.3.

Yeah... you're a bit off on the generation divide. The way TRS views the generations... yours would be a 4th gen.

I've never taken mine to the limits... but others accounts seem to put it right around where you're losing power.

Thanks for the quick replies. Can this be “tuned-out”?
I currently have a JET chip installed.

ive had my 91 with the 4.0 up to 120 before i ran out of road
Right on, perhaps there's a generational difference to where the limiter is.. all sorts of threads online from people who have early 00's v6s wondering how they can get their trucks past 90mph lol.

With a real tuner it's likely you can shut it off.

yea maybe because if his limiter is about 3500 then there must a generation difference because my limiter is around 5000 but also something could be wrong with my truck.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

The limiter would have to be based in vehicle speed, not rpm. The 3.0L peak power is right around 3500rpm. I often take mine to 4,000 and even 4500 to shift.
