lockright on the road?

i want to put a lock right in my rear differential but am not sure if it will be worth it since the truck is my DD. do they have much of an affect on how the truck handles on the road? i have read the articles on here about them but just wanted to hear some first hand experience. thanks guys!!

I have a lockright in my BII, on the road you can hear ir clicking around turns and it'll make your truck want to go straight rather than turn sometimes(mostly when changing lanes on the highway and letting off the gas pedal and pressing it again) In parking lots you need to be cautious with the gas pedal, espcially in really tight turns.

Overall though, once you get used to it, it's not bad at all, if you remember not to push on the gas in turns!

Sometimes it will chirp the tires around corners, but thats about it. some ppl say they domt even notice it , other than the ratching around corners. I would go for it.

I've had one in my 88 Ranger Super Cab for about a year now with 33" Baja Claws and have NO complaints.

I put one in my Ranger a few months ago. I put it in with the stock tires (26") and I didn't really notice a difference on the road. With the 33" tires, it's a little more noticeable. My truck is also my DD, but the only thing that I really notice is that if you hit the throttle hard in tight turns, the back tire on the inside of the turn wants to hop around. Nothing nasty, just try not to accelerate too much in the middle of a sharp turn. With my little engine, I've also had it stall a couple times if I let off the gas quickly during a sharp turn. I don't really hear the clicking, though. Atleast, not over my muffler and the sweet, sweet hum of my Swampers!

I DD with a lock right, not bad, dont hear it click, easy to learn to drive with, just be carefull in the snow/ice. You'll love the traction increase!

If you want locker traction rather than L/S traction, Yes.

Locker=100% to both wheels
L/S=75% to both at best

Depends on your application

You have a more positive lock-up with the Lock-Rite than the LS with clutches.

LS= "Limited Slip"

L-R= No Slip.

I'v had one in my 4x4 for over 35,000 miles with no big complant. Got it for the snow traction and it sure delievers. Got another one sitting for the 4x2 when Spring hits. 2-4, maybe 6" of white stuff Tuesday with temps back into single digits and wind up to 40

Yes, LS diffs (at least in stock form) are nearly as useless as an open diff off-road. Watch this LS vs Locker video of mine.

i dont have limited slip, i have an open 7.5 (unfortunately).

HAHA!! what is that? i live in vegas, it only occasionally get below freezing, ive seen it snow once, an hour later it was gone.

Be glad it's open, they don't make a lock-right for an LS 7.5, you'd have to swap in an open carrier to use it which is a good bit of work (been there done that). And since it doesn't snow there then don't worry about it at all
