I have an 88 ranger that has manual locking hubs and have been having some issues. The passenger side hubs want to switch to locked every so often. They are the stock hubs. I unscrewed the cap and found that the screw through the middle can bo longer hold the cap on. After I unscrewed this I noticed there was a lot of in and out play with the part that screw was screwed into. The drivers side sits flush’s to the front of the case. Is there supposed to be movement there or should it be tight and only twist to the two positions? Would this be something to get new aftermarket hubs for (like the mile markers)? And would those just swap out?

An 88 should have the dana 28. Does anybody still make hubs for it? (Quick google search says yes.)

I have a pair here that was on my original axle. Pay for shipping and they're yours.

I haven't taken one apart so am unsure of what part you're referring to. Seems to me though that the only thing that should have any in/out movement is whatever locks the inside to the outside. And it should click into place on the free side or have spring tension holding in the locked position.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That's a problem and needs to be fixed.

The Milemarker brand will work as a substitute for the originals. But don't try to use Milemarker parts to fix a Warn hub or vice-versa.
