So after getting stuck in a mud pit with only RWD and an open diff, I've decided two things: to finish building my front shaft, and to get locked. I'm also on a budget and don't want to shell out for full carrier replacements

So ponder with me, what would be a good locker combo for a DD'ed trail rig.

I'm runnin a HP D44 w/ molly shafts and after market knuckles up front and a Molly 31 spline 9.

35x15 meats, soon to be 39x somethings pushed by a 3.0 with 4.30 gearing and a wise right foot.

Thoughts so far:

1) Mini spool up front (with a chromo pin), and an Aussie in the rear. Basicly a reverseable lincoln locker. I can unlock the hubs on the road, and unlock just 1 if I need a tight turn. I hear aussies kick ass and are in my price range.

2) Aussie/Aussie

3) Ausie or spool the front, LS rear

4) LS the front if I can find one, Aussie the rear

Any more ideas? Pros or cons? Whaddya say?

Thanks
Adam

Aussie/Aussie.

FWIW if I was going to spool anything it would be the rear.

I drive all over town in this truck and want to be completely locked up on the road. If I spool the front I can unlock the hubs.

I have considered aussie aussie but that gets expensive equickly

Yeah you can unlock the hubs but unlocking them on the trail will get to be a bitch and you're putting constant stress on the shafts because nothing can ever unwind completely, not to mention a further reduced turning radius.

aussie/aussie would be about $500. $240 for D44 Aussie, $260 for 9" aussie.

I just pulled a LS out of a 78 D44.Gears look brand new. Had 4:10 in the front. Are you interested in it. I already have a Posi for the front with my gears on it and I put a loc-rite in the 9".

Im running an Aussie and LS combo. Its my DD and works great on road and the trail. But in a couple weeks im going detroit in the rear. And your 3.0 isnt gonna like 39s and 4.30 gears. Im running 5.13s with 37s and need more on the trail.

^^^what he said about the gears.....

I'm running detroits front and rear and love it. But in your situation, I vote Aussie/Aussie. I have yet to hear a bad thing about the locker, they're easy to install and cheap for such a well engineered and praised piece of equipment.

I'm leanin towards aussie/aussie.

I'm wheeling this summer on my 35s and keepin an eye on craigslist for 37s or 39s.

This winter or my when income flow starts up again, I'll be going to 5.13s. A buddy of mine was a prof at DADC (Lincoln College of Tech) and will walk me through gears for the simple price of a liter of bushmills irish whiskey.

My Aussie drives great, way better than the lock-right and from the no-slip my friend has and driving that too, I prefer my Aussie.
