Hey, I recently had my 98 Ranger's rear end rebuilt. How do I know/test that the limited slip is still working?

Just the right size to touch the ground.
One tire on the pavement one on the grass. Nail it. Did both spin after a second or two?
Sometimes you need to preload it a little by applying a little brake to get a LS to catch, but if it's just been rebuilt, you shouldn't have to.

Best way is to jack it up so both rear wheels are off the ground, leave trans in N, and turn the wheels by hand, they should both spin in the same direction.

G8orFord's suggestion will work, but comes with the possibility of trenching your yard.

If you go to a gravel or dirt road and "step on it" you should see TWO tire spin marks, with OPEN differential just ONE

Great! Thanks to you both. I'll try both options.

Ford's technique is to lift one tire off of the ground, put the transmission in neutral and measure the torque required to rotate the tire that is off of the ground. I don't recall the torque range that is considered good.
