lift swap? input needed!

i have an '88 b2 that im very anxious to start building up, i have a brand new set 0f 33x13.50 ltb's on soft 8's a 31 slpine expo rear (out of a '97) and some other mods waiting to go in, also im trying to aquire a d35. but my question is how much of the lift compnents will be compatable from a ranger to my bronco? the lift will be a 6 inch skyjacker from a member on another forum that was on a '96 ranger. any help is appreciated.

All of the lift parts will work fine. If your doing a D35 swap make sure the lift has the proper bump stop relocators if you are running the drop plate.

If you have Skyjacker, you will most likely not have the drop plate, but put the bump stops on anyway.

Everything will swap over fine, the 31 spline from the Explorer will be sprung under, so you will need to cut and reweld the spring perches and some shock mounts.

What are you using for the rear? Blocks or leaves?

its the skyjacker 6inch so for the rear ill be using the 6inch softride springs

got a d35 this morning before classes started!
its out of a '93 ranger 4.0
this should be a direct bolt in right? what will i need to do as far as the front driveshaft in concerned?

The Dana 35 is a bolt in swap. Check out my Dana 35 swap in my '86 Bronco II here:

The front drive shaft will have to be shortened anywhere from 1" to 1.5". You will have to measure for the shorter shaft after the Dana 35 is installed.

would i be able to just use the front dshaft out of the ranger or will i have to shorten the stock one?

The only way you can use the Ranger drive shaft is if you converted to a BW1354 transfer case. The reason being is the front output on your transfer case has the slip joint in the transfer case. The Ranger you got the Dana 35 from has the slip joint in the drive shaft.

Here is a couple of comparison pictures for you to look at. Notice the difference in the front out puts.

thanks for the diagram, that made things quite a bit more clear. is the bw1354 a much better transfer case? i have access to anything i want off the truck i got the d35 from so would it be worth it to swap the tcase?

edit: the bII currently has a manual selecting tcase, dont know how big of a wrench that would throw into the mix...

The BW1354 isn't all that much stronger than the BW1350 you currently have. The main difference in them is the front out put and that is it.

If the Ranger has a manual transfer case, then it is a bolt in swap as long as you get everything including the shifter assembly.

If the Ranger has an electric transfer case, it will be almost impossible to swap it in. You don't want an electric transfer case anyways.

yeah its an electric tcase, so i guess i'll be finessing the stock driveshaft into the d35.

Some people say you can use the stock drive shaft without cutting it if you are running a 6" lift. Try to fit it in first before cutting it; remember, you need inward and outward slip travel in the slip joint in the transfer case.

If you can find a good BW1354 manual for less than $200, nab it and install it and the BW1354 front drive shaft.

You can look for a '91-'94 Explorer or a '90-'97 Rangers with 4.0's. Those are the only ones that got the BW1354 manual that you would be looking for.

Depending what trans you are running there is 3 maybe 4 different sizes of 1350 front driveshafts.

There is a small joint one and there is a large joint one. It would be one of the large joint ones you need. If you have an FM145, the driveshaft from a TK or C5 may work with the D35.
