I saw five deer today in a forest. I didn't have a gun or camera, but I was hungry enough to eat venison. I continued walking and had a sandwich at a cafeteria.

tmaxx thats a nice deer! looks alot oler than the deer im used too, its really grey in the face. the deer im used to are maybe 4-5 years old at the most. (to the people that dont hunt, just because its young doesnt mean its a small deer)

all ive seen so far was an ass ton of does, 3 spikehorns, a unicorn buck and a seven pointer. i should be eating the seven pointer, but right as i was picking up my gun to line up a shot, the idiot assholes at the next camp started shooting. i counted 6 shots right in a row. needless to say the deer ran away, he hasnt came back in since then.

Sporting kill? The meat tastes the same to me...?

Around here if you wait for the 200lb+ deer or a 22"spread rack you won't ever kill a thing. Too many dog hunters who shoot anything and everything that moves. so theres no such thing as managing a herd..

as long as you kill it humanely, it's a sporting kill....plus, the younger it is, the better the meat probably tastes.

an unsporting kill to me, is when someone goes to one of those deer camps or a deer ranch and pays for a guide and then shoots a mega buck that's been in a giant cage its whole life.

plus, on the east coast, the deer dont get much bigger than that. i shot one in early november about the same size and a 6 point

i even found the bullet lodged in his skin on the opposite i side i shot him

My deer hunting season got f'ed up this year. Shotgun scope mount I bought was broken. Got it replaced after deer season ended. Work would not approve my vacation leave because of the holidays and black friday. So I got to hunt for 2 days in an already heavily hunted forest. Not a single deer I've seen in those 2 days. At least I got to enjoy the peace and beauty of nature while eating a pot roast MRE. If I had my Rem 12ga shotgun ready, I would bagged me a few squrriels.

thats a fair sized deer. not huge but not "tiny". if you see something bigger than that on a regular basis, im coming down to where you hunt next season.
