when were teh spark plugs changed? you will likely need the plug extractor tool to change them. other than the plugs, I don't think they are horrible engines. My buddy has a 2005 Trton in his wife's F150. he had to do the plugs last year, broke 6 of the 8 removing them.

You ever get food poisoning from eating gas station egg salad and then just the site of eggs makes you feel sick?

That's exactly how I feel about triton engines, I've repaired so many broken plugs on them that now just the mention of the name makes me want to vomit.

No idea I'm asking you guys before I get myself into anything. I'm on the poor side of life right now. Can't afford much but need a bigger truck than my ranger to haul my crap from place to place and tow lawnmowers. My 2.5L jobber hates towing my trailer empty... And I'm giving it to my nephew for his first truck along with my spare parts for it, saves space on crap I gotta store lol

Also I'll just pay to have the plugs changed and run it for a year or two till I get settled again and off it. Or just drive it till it dies idc

I know people who have run them hard for years and years in plow trucks and they take it in stride. The plug issue was the only problems I know of so if it has new plugs you know you're probably safe for another 100k...

The first few years of the 3v engines were not good...believe that was '04, 05, '06... low oil pressure, cam phasers, etc

Aside from the spark plug blowout issues on the earlier 2v trucks, those were IMO a lot more reliable, especially towards the end in 02, 03. My boss had an '03 that has well over 200k on it and besides normal maintenance, it's been a great truck.

Oh it's a 4.6. It's a 2v engine then, I read Triton and assumed it was a 5.4.

Sorry I did start reading your link but I'm texting and messaging across 2 threads.

So the 4.6 were in fact a 2v in 07

Also there's a guy selling a 300i6 f150 in 4x4 flavor, For 3000 monies. Would you take the 4.6 over the 4.9? For just general use drive to work haul dirt bikes maybe a car, lawnmowers etc

I'd take a 300 straight six over just about any engine ever made if what you want is reliability...

I think I'd probably prefer which ever one has less rust and is in better condition overall. Pros and cons to both, probably can't go wrong with either as long as they've been maintained.
