Have a 2009 Ranger which needs new leaf springs and a recon power steering box. (Parts sourced) Just wondering what might be expected labour wise for these two items please? Doesn't sound like a hard job for a competent garage but would like to know what to expect. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TRS :)

Depends on the amount of rust encountered, lol

1 to 2 hours per leaf spring, plus parts, takes a bit longer if you have to grind or cut parts off, or if a hanger needs to be changed, these are riveted on so have to grind off the 4 rivets on each hanger

1 hour for power steering pump, maybe 2, never had to change one on the 2.3l Duratec, on some engines you need to remove several brackets and lines to get to the part you need to change

Welcome to the Forum! I see you are from the UK. I believe the basic frame is essentially the same as the US model.

Under that belief, expect to replace the u-bolts for sure. Having new bolts to attach the springs to the truck are not a bad idea. Some come off better than others. I was able to remove mine just fine but others had to cut them off.

Take a look at the shackles and the rear hanger. The hangers are more rust prone than the shackles but better to know before hand if they are going bad and need replaced. The front ones seem to hold up pretty well.

If the shackles are bad, there are two more bolts to possibly replace. The hangers are riveted to the frame and will need to be ground and drilled out. Not that bad of a job if you have and angle grinder and a drill. The replacement hangers come with nuts and bolts to install them.

You should also torque the u-bolts again after driving a few miles since the springs can settle some.

As far as the steering rack. I have no idea. I’ve never had to replace one.
