Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
I'd like to remove the sketchy-in-snow kendas off my truck and replace them with a 33" tire. There's all sorts of 33/10.5/r17 tires out there but the overwhelming majority of them seem to be 10plys.

10plys translate into 15-16mpg in a new Ranger though. I'll purchase no heavier than a 8ply for the sake of fuel costs.

All I've found is the Goodyear wrangler mt/r. Looks like it might be just a touch better than my current mud terrains in the snow.. but.. probably not 1000$ better.

Maybe you can find a P or C load range in like a 275-70-17 or 265-75-17... Probably easiest to find what you want in a metric size

The new rangers will only fit a 265 on stock wheels without the sidewall rubbing on the spindle unfortunately 😕 I'd rather not have to run spacers but damn.. I might have to.

That is a nice looking tire, but damn are they heavy. The 33x10.5r15s they slapped on that jeep weigh 65lbs a piece.. the tires I have now only weigh something like 38lbs each. Would definitely murder my fuel economy lol.

If you can fit a 33-10.5/17 then a 265-75/17 or 275-701/17 will fit. They are very close to the same size.

I was wrong anyways.. a 275 should still leave a quarter inch between the sidewall and the knuckle. Hmmm. That certainly opens up options lol, I just really like my pizza cutters..

Alright, so.. after a bunch of googling and soul searching...

I think I might go with a set of 285/70 firestone destination a/t 2's.

I *might* need to run 1/4" spacers up front.. mabey not. I'll have to browse the 5g website to try and find confirmation one way or the other.

The tread is a little less aggressive than I would like... and 285 is a little wider than I'd prefer..but they're definitely the lightest 33" tire I can find at 42 lbs a piece. I'd like to think that even though they're going to be wider than my current tires.. the tread pattern will still make them much better in the snow than my current m/t's and I shouldn't lose much mpg.. if any.. perhaps the much lower rolling resistance of the firestones compared to the kendas will negate the loss I'd experience from the extra weight. Well see. Still gotta mull this over in the ol noggin.
