in line with the positive battery cable. just wanna make sure its hidden well even with the hood up. out of sight out of mind kinda thing. lock the doors and get an aftermarket alarm that goes off when the doors are opened without a key. trust me man i do roadside assistance and we unlock cars all day long for customers. it takes me MAYBE 10 seconds to gain access on 95% of cars. the more steps you have to go through to start the engine the more a thief dont wanna stay around. if he cant fire it up and start driving within a few seconds hes gonna bail so he dont get caught

Just disable the pump by using the inertia switch.

I have come across many different styles from you have to turn a blinker on or just a hidden button somewhere. I never thought about the inertia switch though not a bad idea.

easy way

easiest way ive ever made a kill switch is to pull the fuel pump fuse, plug tiny spade connectors in its place with an inline fuse and a thin metal toggle switch.

mount that switch with tape on your seatbelt plastic holder below the seat line. hard to get it in their but it cannot be seen. you will have to feel it between the seat to use it.

i'm thread digging today, b/c i'm bored at school...

but all i did was wire mine in to the inhertia switch. wire and a toggle... simply n easy.

also consider a reverse pressure switch behind your ash tray... that way the button has to be released to crank it. pull the ash tray out, turn key, cranked. ash tray in- doesn't crank.

another option is the wire that goes to the neutral safety switch. if that wire is "broke" the truck doesn't think its in park or neutral and won't turn over.

thread bump

I was wondeirng about this. are inertia switches common to most ford vehicles (and to most theifs?) how likely would they know the check the interia switch when they try to start the truck and it is recieving no fuel?

who steals an old ranger anyways? proffesional theives? some kids who watched youtube vids and wanna joyride, or some oldschool dude who just finished a 20year prison stint?

even if they cant steal the truck, theyre going to destroy my ignition and i believe thats a $750 repair, ya?

Since electric fuel pumps there was either an inertia switch or oil pressure switch, and its not a Ford thing

Cars usually have inertia switch in the trunk area

The concern of course is if a fuel line should break in an accident and battery stayed connected gasoline would continue to be pumped out and possible start or feed a fire
If a fuel line was broken the engine would stall and oil pressure would drop to 0psi which would shut off fuel pump relay
These were only used on Carbureted engines since they have a float bowl with enough fuel to start an engine before electric fuel pump needed to come on

Inertia switch was pretty much standard on any engine with fuel injection

So yes, a car thief would know about it, kids looking for a "joy ride" probably not

I prefer the idea of a delayed Kill Switch
Say a 5min timed relay(they are cheap), resets to active automatically each time you shut off the vehicle
You need to push a button to disable it after startup, well within 5min, lol

Reasoning is, if a thief or kids manage to get the vehicle started they will drive off ASAP
After 5min when they are out on the street the engine will stall and can not be restarted and they are now in PUBLIC VIEW, for all to see, sitting in a stalled vehicle...................
They will not try to figure out what happened
They WILL run away as fast as possible

Yes, locks will probably be damaged, if you want to avoid that then you need an ALARM, not a Kill Switch

Some master battery switches have a removable key. And most people would have no idea what it even is with no key in it.
