I had a K&N panel filter in my 99 4.0, and it worked fine...never set off any codes. Didn't seem to do a lot for me though. Didn't change the noise much either.

Don't bother, the only thing you'll accomplish is fouling the MAF sensor with filter oil.

Has anyone else had this problem? Hahnsb3, are you sure your MAF wasn't already about to have problems? I've had to clean my MAF sensors twice now, and I've never upgraded to this filter. Everything on my truck seems to need constant TLC anyways. This would just be another pain in the ass, if what you said is true.

...actually, I meant the K&N with the intake tube and cone style filter. :)

I don't run one nor do I have MAF (at least not till the 4.0 gets put in), I've heard plenty of storys of factory oiled k&n filters fouling MAFs and personally seen filter oil on the compressor of a turbo in a Cummins. Just my $0.02...

Don't waste your money. All that intake will do is make some extra noise, you won't gain anything from it. And yes the K+N filters do foul MAFS. I've had a drop in filter in my 07 for about 25000km now,no prob yet. I clean the MAFS at every oil change.

This has been reported on stock oiled filters too. The oil I saw on the turbo compressor was from a stock oiled filter, using an oiled filter just sounds dumb to me. There are other companys such as AEM that make "high flow" non oiled filters, either way, you wont see a difference, the paper filter flows more than the engine can use.

I put a K&N intake on my 06 4.0L about a year ago. (bought it off of ebay) I love it! No problems yet. My gas mileage went from 16.2 mpg to 17.3 mpg and thats aaaalllll city driving. That was before I put the exhaust on. I still have to find out what it does now in the city. But I did take it on the hwy a couple days after I put the exhaust on and i got 21.1 mpg. I'd say its just a personal preference to put one on or not.
