My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I think they are specific to year model, engine and transmission type (man or auto) and EGR stuff.

Pretty much what ericphoto said, though I’m not sure about the year limitation.

They are specific, but the OBD1 computers typically don’t really care as long as you don’t try to use a manual trans computer in an auto. I’m running an auto computer out of I think it was an Explorer in my choptop which is a manual. It doesn’t really care but if you pull codes it throws a couple because it can’t “see” the transmission. Doesn’t throw a check engine light, just stores the codes. Had a couple people tell me they coul get me a computer for a manual 4.0 but to date I still don’t have one.

Not sure how much pin-outs changed, but I have changed the harness out so it’s been a non-issue.

if you’re asking thinking the sport might have some sort of programming tune from the factory, I would say most likely not.

That's what I was wanting to know bc I've tried finding one and it won't pull it up. I have a 1990 sport 2.9 w/5 speed manual.
