Jerry can and jerry can mount?

So I a brand new to this community since I just got my first truck, a nice little 2003 Ranger Edge with a side step bed. My main use for the truck is camping and hiking and mostly being up in the mountains. I was wondering if anyone has every created a mount for possibly a jerry can (long distance travels). Is this a stupid thing? Has anyone done?
