Thanks for the info. As part of this work, I am going to replace the rusty cooling lines between the transmission and the radiator. Does anyone know what the fittings I would need to both connect to the transmission and the radiator? It looks to me like the line thickness is bigger than 1/4" like maybe 5/16" or perhaps it is a metric thickness. I am going to try thin wall stainless tubing if it is not too hard for my bending and flaring tool.

I did some testing tonight on the local expressway and I can confirm that my A4LD will lock up the torque converter in the Drive (3rd) gear at 45mph exactly (given my tire size) when I am cruising on a flat road with high engine vacuum. I notice a drop of about 200 rpm in my case.

Since the ECU is already doing a good job at locking up the TC in Drive (3rd) and OD (4th) I don't believe I would gain much by trying to override the ECU and locking the converter at lower speed or a lower gear like 2nd where I would run the risk of making the converter clutch slip under the torque and thus prematurely fail. I going to focus my mod efforts on getting the most cooling I can so that the transmission doesn't go too much above 180 during towing operations.

On the 1992 4.0 Ranger, does the factory trans output cooling line (hot line) go from the A4LD to the top of the radiator or the bottom of the radiator?
