So we have over 1' of snow here now and its still pouring down snow. It will probably snow for the next 2 days and I can't afford to keep missing work
Last night I made it up our extremely steep driveway with my 2wd open diff, the chains were clawing their way into the ice to get a bite into the ground. I just barely made it.
Using wal-mart cheapo chains I was scared they were going to snap going up the hill, but they endured for 2 trips up the driveway. Today the snow is much deeper and I was planning on making another trip down and then back up to keep the tracks fresh, but decided to make sure the chains would hold up in this deep of snow....... well I found out that no, they don't hold up about the time i saw one of the chains being spit out the rear.
I fixed the chain that broke by opening up a link and reattaching then welding it back together, but I decided I would like to get some tougher chains that are easier to install... $90 at Les Schwab
We all know they are like $30 in the summer, but that is to be expected. Other than that there are no heavy duty chains available that I could get same day.
FUUUUN
END.
