I just bought an 03 explorer sport with the 5r55e trans. I'm new to rbv autos so I don't know if this is normal or not.

So when accelerating mildly, it shifts at around 2200-2400 rpm, and then the next gear engages at about the same rpm (except 4th to overdrive). I thought the rpms would drop more because the gear ratios are different, but Idk. Is it just because the gear ratios are very close together or what? does this make sense to you guys?

As long as there is no hard shifting, banging noises or slipping you are good to go on those numbers.

Sounds normal to me, the transmission is holding the engine at whatever RPM is best for the given throttle input. If you step on it a little harder, it'll force a downshift or will hold the same gear to a higher RPM, and vice-versa.

The torque converter will flash stall at roughly 2400rpm. The loose converter does not allow the rpm to drop much when shift changes occur below this point.
