Hey Guys,

When my Ranger arrives I plan to install a set of LED backup lights under the rear bumper (?). Is there a good place to mount them?

I honestly never looked. My plan is to cut holes in the bumper and install flush mount lights. That way, there is less likelihood they will get damaged by them hitting something while driving off road.

What will you use to do the cuts?

A drill bit for the corners and a die grinder with a metal cutoff wheel. Probably files to final shape and smooth out the cuts.

It’s going to be a good while before I do it but will do. The 2011 will probably get done sooner but it will be the same deal. Unless I fall into money and can just buy an off road bumper already equipped with them.

Not sure you will have a receiver hitch... but they make a bracket that clamps to the receiver and accepts a light on either side of it. Pretty slick I thought.

That's it...

Would be better if you could get it behind the bumper IMHO

Unfortunately the reviews are not good for that light kit. "Poor fit", "moisture build up inside lights"

Cutting holes is great until you have to replace the part you cut the hole for.................never find the same size, lol

LEDs can be made very flat so drilling a few holes for bolts and wires in the bumper to install flat "pods" would be a better option in my opinion

@RonD

Can you post and example of these "flat pods"?

Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295222237635?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28

There are other types

Standard Reverse light bulbs are 26watts so about 350 lumens, LED replacement bulbs can be lower watts but higher lumens, so better light
And no resistors to deal with, its not like turn signal bulbs, lol

I'd be inclined to weld a protective metal piece around the led in the link above if you back into things like I do.

Part of the reason I'm leaning toward flush mount. RonD does have a point but knowing me, I'd be replacing more surface mount lights than flush mount ones.
