Is the Blue Driver ODB2 dongle worth $100?

Anyone have one? Is it worth the $99 price tag?

Not when you consider the alternative. Forscan and a cheaper obd2 adapter.

If you have a older ranger it uses J1850 pwm protocol and you must get a compatible adapter. Only one I’ve found that is 100% is the BAFX products Bluetooth adapter.

Get that and an android tablet or you can use a pc. Pc Forscan is free and the android one is maybe $10.

Forscan can read all proprietary control units unlike BD that only reads PCM.

PC has a little more functional like by directional controls, programming keys, etc.

I have a BAFX blue tooth dongle. Works OK with paid Torque android app. I will try the forscan app and see if I can get bi-directional controls. I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon I bought this stuff for. My ranger is a 93, so I got a ODB1 scanner for it. I have a 2006 Ford Focus to try forscan on. I have to see if I can use my laptop for blue tooth. It has Linux on it and I use a VM with 32 bit Windows XP for use with an adapter and techlink for the Avalon. Not sure if blue tooth will move over to a VM or not.

I have one. Paired with my iPad it makes a pretty functional (and very portable) scan tool. It’s not nearly as useful as ForScan and a Windows laptop, but it works on everything I’ve tried it on so far, except a 7.3 Powerstroke, for some reason.
It’s about as functional as my Actron Elite AutoScanner ($250-$300). If you don’t have a good scan tool, it’s a great buy. If you do, don’t waste your $100.
But if you’re in the market for a scan tool, the best all-around device I’ve had for the money is the Autel MaxiCheck Pro (~$185). Check it out.
