Hello. There is a 1987 Ford Bronco II in my area for $8,000. It's on CL, so I think I can get them down a bit. Just wondering if you think this is worth it? They are saying it has 88,000 miles, but the engine has been rebuilt. They also stated that it runs well. It appears very clean and they stated there was no rust. I still want to check that out for myself, but I wanted to see what anyone else thought about the vehicle overall.

Thanks!

Why would you rebuild an engine with only 88k miles? Or is that 88k on the rebuilt engine?

Only you can say if it's worth that price. I wouldn't buy a 30+ year old bronco for 8 grand but these things are selling for stupid money now so it is what it is. If it's rust free, drives good, and you have documentation on the engine rebuild and mileage then it should be a nice truck.

For sure. I don't want to pay $8k for it either, thinking about taking $6k with me and seeing what they say.

Pretty truck.

Crazy market for good Bronco II's these days. For that asking price, I'd expect the mechanicals to be 100%- everything works, nothing needing attention. And, I'd expect receipts to back up any claims of any replaced parts or work done.

The AC belt looks to be missing (no working AC = not a 100% truck), and the truck has a sunroof- make sure it's not a leaker (towels on rear seat?). Looks like it has Explorer wheels on it.

Yea if he says the motor was rebuilt and doesn't hand you documents, then you can assume and base your offer on the motor not having been rebuilt.. When selling a car saying something was done is absolutely worthless without receipts.

Keep your mind like an umbrella, it only works if its open... Continually learning.
I'm curious as to why there is new wiring in the bottom of the engine picture? And it looks like butt connectors in a outdoor environment. They won't last too long before they start corroding.

For the price, what are other B IIs going for in your area?

Some of the newer ranger came with that style of Wheels. I have a set of 16"s that look the same.

The but splices look someone added a couple of inline fuses for something. Aftermarket Stereo? Trailer Brakes?

It's hard to say. I can't really find any that have sold in the area. There are a few at dealerships starting at nearly $12k. There is a new stereo too.

It looks good and judging from the condition of the front seats those miles are not impossible. Some people call an engine rebuilt if it just has new seals or heads or whatever. What's important is compression, leakdown test results and oil consumption, those kind of things that tell you the actual condition. See how it runs and drives, idles, pulls. Some rebuilds are done poorly also and you don't want that. $8K is a lot of money but these are now considered collector cars and that means rational prices are out the window. Mine is a '90 with 230K miles but it has 0 rust, all original paint, looks great and runs 100%, I'm sure I can get $8K for it all day long here in southern CA. Probably more if I put it on BAT. There's a couple on CL here now at $12K and $16K.
I'd go check it out and if it's decent and you can get it for $5-6K, I predict in a few years it will be worth several thousand more.
