I know very little about porting the upper and lower intakes, so can these phenolic spacers be used as a template to do so? I understand that this material is difficult to cut/shape without the proper tools/bits, so would it be just a matter of porting the intakes to match the spacers?

Also, how would you prevent the spacers and upper intake from shifting side to side, front to back, so your freshly ported intakes and spacers don't misalign? I know that the stock gaskets will shift, and the upper intake will too before torqueing it down.

What is the extra hole on one of the gaskets/spacers for? I know that the '86/'87 lower intake has them, but nothing mounts to it (the upper intake doesn't have it).

And can you drill the holes so the spacers do not shift when the bolts are run through them?

Extra hole is for the Scorpio intake (what I have in the works, pics to follow as soon as I figure out an issue with a throttle body port).

They can be used to port match. They're the exact size of a Fel Pro gasket set.

I dis my upper in two evenings with a dremel and a teardrop shaped cutter. WAY easier than you'd expect. Porting my lower took a week. Much harder, much more precision work.

Saw a larger difference from porting the upper vs lower. Still both worth doing, though.

For sliding around, I used gasket maker on the gaskets. Take caution doing this - Gasket maker and O2 sensors don't mix.

Pretty good work especially having no cnc experience. Took me 6 months of training just to get my haas 5 axis to make a basic aluminum pipe flange.
We're fairly quick learners haha. My buddy has some CAD experience and I can program in C/C++, so we hacked it together. Just need to some dremel cleanup.

Ya'll know I'm dumb, and sorry for intruding, BUT, what are these, and what do they do?
Not dumb, and not intruding haha. I only learned about this kind of stuff as a result of old forum posts on racing forums.

Questions like that are a massive help to passers-by. Plus, we're all still learning. Me especially ??

I don't consider myself dumb for real, I just know what I don't know, and say that when I ask a question that may be obvious to everyone else in the room. Now I know a little bit more. thanx:icon_thumby:

Well, according to the AFR gauge, they work.

Drove for an hour or so. Got home and parked it, 160f under the spacer, 105f on top. Woot!!

Noticed the truck ran right around 14.7:1 the whole way back, as opposed to the normal 16:1 I'm normally at once the engine comes up to temp.

So, is the mill your friend got programmable? Do you have a set available? Is it not a big deal to make another set in the future if there was a demand for them? Do you still have phenolic material to make more? I'm interested, but things are a little tight cash-wise at the moment.

Out of garrolite at the moment, but have a pending bulk order for ones for 2.3 Lima rigjt now. Planned on knocking a few more sets out for 2.9s out of the scrap. Want me to keep you posted?
