I have heard that you should not look at a monitor 1 hr. before you go to sleep.

Something about the bright light.

I had the same problem for years. About 1 year ago I started exercising. I lift weights and run 5 days a week, now I am asleep by 9:30 every night. Just remember to start slow if you haven't done any activity in a while.

+1

I have bouts of it now an again... spent nearly 2 years getting an average of 3 hours of sleep or less a night, and it wasn't a solid 3 hours either. Tried taking prescription sleep pills for a couple days, but it was only adding about an hour to my sleep and it was still broken sleep so I gave up on that. When I'd feel myself burning out from lack of sleep I'd find a party if I was up at college, or just sit down an have a few at home. Learned to mix different drinks, tried new drinks, and just had a blast. Then I'd get a couple hours of decent sleep and then back to insomnia.

Get one really good workout in every day. If that's not enough, find the most boring audiobook you can, and play it when you can't sleep.

Excersise or wrenching. And because it is cold out, if I go out to the garage at 1am in just jeans and a hoodie, the cold shuts me right down.

I have it on and off over the year. I work a rotating 12 hour shift, so it is part of the benefits that comes with that. :annoyed:

I had to make some adjustments as far as things like caffiene consumption goes. Now I never drink any caffinated drinks after noon and limit my coffee intake in the morning. I also try and go to bed by 10pm and get up at 6am every day off that I have. Sleeping in even one day can mess you up a bit.

Oh, and limiting alcohol consumption is a good idea too. Drinking a six pack before bed will not help you sleep despite what most others believe.

If I get particularily bad spells I use either Valerian Root capsules or tea or melatonin caplets. Both are readily available at any pharmacy. Just don't use them unless you need them.

I had the same problem for years. About 1 year ago I started exercising. I lift weights and run 5 days a week, now I am asleep by 9:30 every night. Just remember to start slow if you haven't done any activity in a while.
This is by far the best way to battle insomnia and it is also the easiest. If you go to one of those sleep clinics, 99% of the time this is the first recommendation on their list.

get laid, that always knocks me right out!
This is a close second to exercising. Just make sure that your wife/girfriend/mistress isn't one of those "I like to talk after sex," types! :icon_rofl:

That's what I do, minus the hot shower and sandwich.
