Inconsistent brake feel and performance

I’ve had a problem with the brake feel of my 2019 Supercrew since I bought it in December. I thought it would improve as the pads seated in, but there was really no improvement. I have 4100 miles on it now. So I ran across a post from a Ford Engineer concerning this issue. It sounded very simplistic and I thought there was no way it would make any improvement but I thought I’d give it a shot. The procedure is basically what I always do following a brake job. Take your truck up to 30 to 40 mph and brake hard. Do this 3 times then let the truck sit for 30 mins to cool the rotors. So I gave it a bash. I couldn’t believe it but it made a marked improvement in the braking. The brakes now have some initial bite and modulation is much better. Prior to trying this I would start braking with little or no slowing, which necessitated more pedal pressure, until the brakes just grab hard. Usually throwing your passenger into the dash. Now you can feel the braking start immediately and modulate as needed. Apparently there is a coating on the rotors and or pads that normal braking (4100 miles) didn’t remove from my truck. The pedal is still in the spongy side but the braking performance is much improved.

Thanks for the tip. It might help someone. When I bought mine, I didn’t get to drive it much. It served it’s prime function as a back up vehicle right from the day it was delivered and the girlfriend drove it for a while while her clown car was in the shop. Then I got deployed for late summer and early fall. So, she got all the break in time with it. She never did complain about the brakes though.

This is usually suggested after a 2-300 mile "break in"

Wow, this is why i'll never own a brand new vehicle with 0 miles.... Especially on a new design like the '19 rangers..... Ya'll can be their guinea pigs, not me. Wonder how many '19 rangers have front end damage because of this??

Breaking in new brakes isn't a new vehicle thing, it is a new brake thing.

Your brakes will work better if you do it on a 200k mile 20yo pile of rust when you replace brakes too.
