A boot a week ago, I went to start my Ranger (1995 3.0L 5speed) and it turned over fine, when i went to shut it off, the key just spun around, i did'nt shut off. So the next day i went to NAPA and bought a new lock cylinder (friggin 48 bucks) :shok: and put it in. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING!!! So in order to shut my truck off i have to pop the hood and disconnect the battery and the plug that plugs into the coil pack.
So im stumped, i dont know what to do,:damnit1: Could it be behind the lock cylinder??
The ignition is kinda out a little, but the little pin under it is in its slot. Someone help me!!!

The electrical part of the ignition switch is mounted further down the column and is connected to the lock cylinder by a rod. I would suspect the switch has broken.

There is a gear in the column that the cylinder goes into, that meshes with a with a flat piece of die cast with teeth in it, that in turn connects to the actual switch. The piece of die cast is stripped or broken. The easiest way to fix it is to replace the column with a used one. If you are really adventurous you may be able to find the parts and fix it yourself. It is a royal pain in the butt though.
