on my 90 b2 2.9 i have codes 14, 18, and 66. 14 says ignition pickup erratic, 18 says ignition tach signal erratic and 66 says vane air flow meter signal low. my question is can the code 14 and 18 cause the 66? i recentley replaced the mass air flow sensor so im wondering if i should bring it back to get replaced in warranty or if the other codes can cause the mass air flow code

Hello,
The 14 and 18 are caused by the TFI module on the distributor. The 66 is related to the MASS sensor or it's associated wiring. I'd have the sensor looked at and replaced if found to be off. The TFI module has been a high fail item on these trucks. Though in my case I have changed every sensor, and an engine, and the TFI module on my 87 BII is still ticking along.......

A MAF code, ignition pick up code, as well as a tach code could be set from a failing TIF. They are all related and help to control the same system. When one fails the computer over or under adjusts the others to compensate setting several codes in the process.

I've heard that TFIs can be bad out of the box. As I stated, I ain't had to change one yet, fingers crossed. There is no good way to test the TFI that I know of outside a parts store. Have you had any luck in your troubleshooting yet?
