I'm a long time reader and gotten a lot of help from TRS. I'm a new member and first time posting, as I am stumped! My 87 4wd ford ranger has a 92 4.0 v6 in it. That work was done before I got the thing and know nothing about it. I am trying to replace the icm. The labels show that it is Motorcraft edis6 90gb-12k072-ab. I've been hunting for a month or so for this part. I have found several that are almost exact, however the label reads 90gb-12k072-BA. It is an expensive part to assume it will still work and I can find nothing stating they are interchangeable. I have found aftermarket products that come up when I enter vehicle specs, but they don't reference the part numbers I have. I'll will say that whoever did the engine swap left a mess and no telling if the thing was correct to begin with. But the truck did work fine for a while and then symptoms of bad icm got worse until I found the icm off mount and all melted. So my next step is making sure I find the right icm and new pigtail. This part seems to be non-existent. Any help on this part, those numbers, what would be interchangeable, or where I would possibly find one would be greatly appreciated.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
there are differences. but i have a 97 module on a modified 93/94/95 harness in an 89/90/84 pieced together broncoranger thing with a 93 ranger 4.0....and 91 pcm.

it was the newest lowest mile one i could find at the junkyard. it was less then 5 bux. with the 93pcm it spark knocks like a mofo. and has a lower rev limit.

I was under the impression that as long it came from a v6 and would plug in pretty much any ICM would work. (No word on how well.)

I have parted out a couple early 90's 4.0 trucks recently, I will try and remember to look and see if I have the ICM from any of them. Usually I keep stuff like that.

Thanks for the info. You would think the one I can find would work. It looks exactly the same, same number of wires, green edis6 label...only difference are those last 2 letters reversed. With my lack of knowledge and my luck with stuff like this, it won't work. And problem is, I'll still not know if really doesn't work or if it's something else. The whole production that whoever did under that hood is a mess. But this part definitely stands out with it all melted together.
Shran-that would be awesome if you had that laying around. If nothing else...it could maybe tell me something if the numbers/letters are on the back. But if it's same, and you want to sell it, I'd buy it.
Again, thanks for the input guys.

@bigkevfann this is the earliest one I have. It came out of a '91 Explorer. My '92 Explorer has the same module... I had another '92 harness that also has the same module.

If you want to try it and see if it works for you PM me and I can send it your way. I can't imagine that it wouldn't work, there is just very little difference in the early 4.0 trucks.

Oh yeah I'm sure module and connector is trashed. Everything under the hood looks like it's been wired by a 10 yr old. This particular part was just left resting against something that melted it all to crap.
