I had that happen on my front shaft, rear joint. Scared the crap out of me, shaft came up and put a dent right under my gas pedal. My fault in not checking the grease in joint. That was in my old F-100/360 running big tires, 4.10 gears.

Rather new joint too. The shaft is ok and the flange was in rather good shape just too much power for ranger sized junk. Not the first time either, I broke a brand new joint on the front of that shaft about this time last year too. The sad thing is I get quite a few people asking me where I found an aluminum center section 8.8.

Ya' gotta' love torque (that the OEM ranger was not designed for).

You just need an F150 sized yoke with a 1350 joint. Simple swap there.

that's what I did about 3 years ago, I forgot to mention that. there is very little RBV stuff left on the truck. Thankfully I have a list of what the donor vehicles are because most parts stores are idiots and want a vehicle and can't look up a part.

Sure it was. What axle is in the 5.0 Mustangs and F150s? A 300ft# 302 in second gear doesn't compare with a 225ft# 4.0 in low-range. I busted one of those too. Shit happens.

Back in the "olden days" F150's got 28 splined axles (but only with a smaller splined end on a 31 spline sized axle shaft) All the 8.8's in the F series have 31's. The Stangs got 28's, same as the Rangers.

I am willing to bet with those blocks you've got some axle wrap which is really giving those u-joints a work out

Oh, I'm just contemplating my lowly 7.5" and another "supermods" cracked bell-housing.

Suprisingly i get very little axle wrap. I'm sure the springs look like an "S" once they are loaded but I don't usually get any wheel hop. The tires either spin or hook...usually spin. I'll have it fixed tomorrow, found a new yoke again.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Its always better to have your tires spinning then to have them hooked.

When you a routing that much torque something has to give....and its usually best to lose some tire rubber then another piece somewhere further up.

Reason why muscle cars came from the factory with crappy polyglass tires, you send 475+ FTLBS of big block torque being controlled by the average 20 year old (who bought those cars) foot and its a warrenty nitemare.

later,
Dustin
