yes, the same Hiway 41 in the Allman Brothers song.
going north it ends a couple miles from this pic in the middle of Lake Superior.

I didn't get a pic of the actual end-of-the-road sign, guess I'll have to go back.
there is a really cute Scandinavian waitress at the restaurant there. :icon_thumby:

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
"And the road goes on forever."

I remember when I-75 ended just north of Atlanta, before it was completed, and you'd have to take Highway 41.

Hmmm, I missed that one.

EDIT: after searching I found the story about that being a prank sign in 1984.

another EDIT: after mentioning it to the wiffie she slapped me up-side the head and reminded me I did see that sign last week.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Are we sure that’s the end of the road and not the beginning?

We have a Highway 41 over here. It runs from Moro Bay to Yosemite.

good question.
there were huge mining operations in that area starting back in the late 1800s so there was definitely a road there then.

There were a lot of mining operations near Yosemite in the mid-1800s. There are still roads there, but some of them have pine trees in the middle of them now. To the south there was major oil driling near Kettleman City in the 1920s. And about another 30 miles to the southwest is the location where James Dean crashed in 1955.
