Ok so im building a 302 for a mustang project, and have a351 laying around with a tranny on it i plan to use. So how do i identify between a c4 trans and a c6? Also, if you cant get a motor to turn over, how do you seperate the trans? I could only get one torque conv. bolt off...
Thanks guys

i don't believe the c6 has a removable bell housing, so if it is removable it is probably not a c6. i am not saying that it is for sure a c4 though. i am sure if you took a picture of it, someone could identify it for you. or search around on the interenet, i have seen pages that could help you identify the trany, but don't have the link at the moment.

as far as the torque converter, it should just pull out of the trany. much easier if you have the whole engine/trany out of the vehical. if you would unbolt the engine from the trany, it should slide out with the torque converter still attached to the flywheel.

C4, C5, and FMX all had removable bell housings. The c4 and c5 are TINY little things, much smaller than any comparable trans. The c5 has a little longer bellhousing and a lock up torque converter. They also have 4 little "saddles" on the top of the main housing. The FMX has a cast iron main body. The C6 is about the same size as a turbo 350 or mopar 727, a "normal" size trans.
