I would prefer one using a stock Explorer engine and full cats as I have to pass Ca smog checks. Let me know what you might want to sell. I have a 2002 and it's "too new" to do a swap on my own as the CA regulations say the engine must be one available in that year and Explorers had gone to mod motors .

I could build one for you, but it won't be fast, and it won't be cheap.

It also won't have a V8. It will have a 2.9 in it.??

Sorry. Couldn't resist. Bored at the moment. Best of luck on your search!

I can build my own , I was trying to save myself the time and aggravation.

Sorry I was bored and don't consider a 2.9 a step up. Thanks for the offer though.

Buying a truck thats had anything done like a v8 conversion means you're buying someone elses problems. You have no way of knowing if it was done right, if the engine was rebuilt properly or just a junkyard pos with a million miles, and when something goes wrong (and it will) since you didn't do the work and it's completely custom you have no idea what the last guy did and how to fix it.

Not a time or aggravation saver to me. If you're not willing to do it yourself then it's not worth it to own.

I agree with Dirtman in part.

Odds are if you're buying a custom vehicle, it's one that's too much of a headache to fix, or it's at the end of it's life.

What engine is your Ranger? Does California law allow for forced induction? If not, megasquirt with an adapter harness and a remote mount turbo swap in and out once a year very easily with factory parts.

If law does allow for it as long as it can pass smog, then a 4.0 SOHC takes a junkyard Eaton M90 supercharger as a bolt ok kit.

ModBox sells the kits cheaper than the cost of a V8 truck.

I don't agree that everyone is a crook. I sold a V8 Pinto conversion that needed nothing. I just wanted something else after years of ownership. I can do the work my self and who knows , I might be a bigger hack than someone else.
The smog laws here in California are very specific BUT engine swaps are legal. It must be the same year and have all the cats , EGR , stock manifolds etc. The vin from the donor vehicle must be provided and the new emissions can't exceed the past emissions. I've watched the youtube videos and realize it is an ambitious undertaking at the least. My goal is a smog legal V8 Ranger , not another racecar. I already have a 10 second '66 GT350 for that.

I did mine right. I think, maybe . I have the write up to prove it :).

Hey Randy, this is Dan Adams.
Good luck in your search, I'm rather pleased with mine as a daily driver. Nothing fancy or fast by today's standards but it's fun to buzz around town in to pickup parts.
