I have access to a few 55gal barrels of misfuel gasoline with unkown amounts of diesel mixed in it. basically a gas station tows a truck into our shop after filling a diesel with gasoline and we pump it into the drums and do nothing with it.
we've run this stuff in the shop vehicles before. at worst it caused smoky exhaust and long crank times before starting, but that was some really diesel rich stuff.
the barrels IM getting smell like raw gas and feel like gas with just a hint of oilyness to it. we've used a 1/4 tank in the shop van without issue but it only drove about 1mile to the gas station to get filled up the rest of the way.
i want to use this in my ranger since its daily driver, if it destroys the cat then i'll "fix" the cat, i just don't want to cause it to run bad or not start.
i also have carb'd trucks that i could use this stuff in, big v8's are not cheap to feed.
PLANS: saturday morning i will take 150gal in 3 barrels to my parents and test each barrel in the riding lawn mower since its easy to drain the fuel system, if i get GOOD results i'll be adding it to the tanks of the carb'd trucks and see how they run
I need to figure out ways to determine the ratio of diesel to gasoline and what would be acceptable to run in a gas engine.. carbed or fuel injected
from my research i've found that diesel and gasoline mix readily and don't separate so i can't pour into a jar and let it separate
one method suggested to me was to see how readily it burns when poured on the ground, i like the idea but i want to be more sure
so what can i do to figure out the mix?
