I believe my rims are 7.5. I run Cooper Cobra GT's in 255/60-15 without any problems or funky wear. Just got two new ones yesterday. The old ones lasted almost 10 years. Fronts are 205/70-15 on the same rims.

If you're wanting to run a large sidewall with a bunch of drop, then wheel width and offset become far more critical. Before spending a couple grand on wheels/tires and hoping things work out, I'd spend $70 on a measuring tool to really find out:

Without going to expensive custom wheels you may have to compromise in some area to avoid rubbing. This could be wheels with different offset, smaller diameter, different tires, less drop, etc. Just depends on your priorities.
