Ok I am out last weekend driving around looking at trucks, and come across this Ranger in a lot for sal. It looks like a DOT truck or something (all yellow), but the thing that I can't figure out is the little black "bump" on the roof above the passenger side. It's not the antenna. I can only think that its a added internal antenna for something else.....?

Anybody know what it is? I'm stumped, and have NEVER seen this on a Ranger.

It could be a thing for gps tracking or a Gheto low-jack system tracker. Big companys will use them to mase sure their employees arent sleeping or stoping at the titty bar.

Satellite radio antenna, on a Ford that vintage almost certainly Sirius.

I have an antenna EXACTLY like that mounted on my truck.

Mine is a factory Ford antenna that mouns THROUGH the
roof not "on" the roof, so there's no wire/cable OUTSIDE the truck.

OF course my antenna is not original to my truck I got the antenna
off of a 2006 Escape that lost an arguement with a tree.

I mounted mine to the middle of the roof so to most people it's
invisible. Idon't like advertising that I have "stuff" that others might want.

No I'm not worried about someone taking my stuff, I'm worried more
about the reams of paperwork that will be involved if I CATCH
someone trying to take my stuff and I blow their ass into eternity.

First off, that isn't a DOT truck. That is a factory color on the '06 and '07 Rangers. I think it is called Huggar Orange.

Secondly, Ford used Sirius for their satellite radio. It is offered as an option on the '06+ Rangers.

Actually, we call it ugly.

And my truck has one of those antennas. I use it for communicating with the Marklarian mothership.

Yeah...factory installed Sirius antenna. My '09 has one, too.

What I wanna know is why is it there? I mean, if I ever decide to mount a CB antenna on the roof of this truck I'll be glad it's out of my way...but otherwise, it just seems like they could have put it somewhere that didn't look like it was just "slapped" on top of the truck. Centered L/R would have been my preference, either right at the front or right at the back of the roof...front's probably better, so they could have the same position for regular and extended cab.

I have two on my roof, not in that exact spot. They are ham radio antennas. My father in-law who gave me the truck was in to that stuff.
