If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
You could find a 2000 Ranger that looked that nice in NH, as long as you were looking for it in about 2007...

This ranger has a 3.0, not a 4.0.

The seller said 4.0; I will check my other Ranger parked at my garage -- that definitely has a Cologne V6.
I've had a whack load of 3.0 equipped Fords. The upper intake plenum looks like that of a 3.0. If the 8th digit of the VIN is "U", then that's the deciding factor.

I am also looking at a 2002 Ford F-150 with a 4.2 OHV V6 mated to an M5ODHD and RWD with 62k miles for $3,000.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Nope. Nope. Definitely a 4.0l. I can tell by the air freshener on the rearview mirror.

wouldnt a 2000 have the ohc 4.0 , not the ohv? still looks great though.
The ‘97 I bought for 500 a few years back had a claimed 4.0 that turned out to be a 3.0

I have been driving my F-250 Super Duty (6.8 Triton V10/ZF6/4x4) to work daily, and I have been looking for a second truck to mitigate miles and fuel costs.

ouch, that’s probably as bad as the old ‘77 with a C6, full time 4wd and 4.10’s- 9mpg, no matter what.

The 4.0 OHV V6 was retired in favor of the 4.0 SOHC V6 midway through 2001; likewise, the 2.5 Lima was retired in favor of the 2.3 Duratec midway through 2001 as well. I personally prefer the 4.0 OHV V6 and the 2.3/2.5 I4 in Rangers.

The 4WD is part-time with a manual-transfer case and manual-locking hubs; it also has 4.30 gears and XL trim (vinyl bench, vinyl flooring, and window cranks in the Super Cab). I average approximately 12 miles per gallon, which is mostly commuting to work about twenty minutes each way.

In 1995 the Ranger 4.0 had the plastic upper intake manifold, and it says 4.0 on it. The 3.0 Ranger still had the aluminum upper intake manifold until 2001-2002 era. The 4.0 never had plastic valve covers. Look on the valve covers, and you will see it says 3.0 V6.
