I Bought a truck !

here’s my story.

I needed to upgrade from my 06’ Subaru Outback wagon. It has been a great car for me but it cannot pull my boat and a small 4x4 pickup truck checked all the boxes. After much research I settled on the Ford Ranger.

i found a nice 04’ XLT with low mileage , excellent body and great frame in my area.
in the past few days I’ve gotten a nice cap, beautiful rims/tires to replace originals and a nice set of Blizzak snow tires for winter wear that will go on the original rims.
I love the Ford Ranger !!

Now I just need to find the correct lug nuts to hold the center caps on the wheels. The original nuts do not capture the holding tabs on the caps. I’ll be searching the forum to find an answer………..

i still have the stock steel wheel and hub caps that are held on with lug nuts like those

And these are fine on the aluminum rims ? I know some require specific acorn shape of lug nut….

Yes, that’s one of the things that attracted me to this truck,,, I looked at a few red ones , but that’s not my color. And the Black cap goes well with it. Need to consider some pinstripes next….

Don't know what part of New England you are in, but if you have a u-pull it yard, that is what I did... It wasn't a listed price/part so I just asked the counter guy BEFORE I pulled it, he said $5 for a full set - 20 lug nuts... sold, done good to go. (I had to pick on 3 different explorers to get a full set of 20, then took them over to a 2nd generation ranger in the yard and tested each and every one to verify none of em were some goofy metric or cross threaded or or.) .... Bottom line, it is a durable metal part, bone yard is fine and mountains cheaper - style wise, they are totally hidden behind the cap so who cares if they are perfect, first trip to the tire shop and they wont be perfect anymore anyhow.

I ended up ordering 20 new from rock auto for $15….. listed as compatible with the Ranger and explorer etc. so should be fine.

Cool Cool, I totally understand going either route... sometimes the half day commitment, gas, drive time and and etc, piles up and it is worth it. Especially if east of the Miss. like you are you pay an admission fee and the price is 2x what I get to pay. I just throw it out as quick as I could cause that first link was $3.50 for a single nut... Hope you keep it in mind for more expensive stuff, no sense paying 4x as much when you don't have to - we get to feed em plenty of our wallet when we go to the pump.
