Push the rod in all the way with the bleeder open. Close the bleeder then add fluid then pump a million times, bleed, repeat. Maybe you just have air in it. Or the clutch doesn't have enough adjustment. Thats all I can think of beside the master cylinder and slave have too much of a difference in the bore sizes.

Hey Joe. I just installed my slave bracket and slave cyl. for line up. I've yet to install my flywheel, pressure plate, t.o. bearing, etc. The engine is currently on my stand again for said installs. Since I'm doing everything from scratch I continue to remove and replace the engine in the truck for various fitments, the clutch being one of many. Can't give ya any measurements at this point on mine but I am looking at yours.
It appears that you have about an 1 1/2" travel on your fork which is probably where you want to be. If I was going to troubleshoot your clutch "grab" I think I would start by measuring the position of the throw out bearing when the clutch pedal is relaxed, measuring the distance between the face of the t.o. bearing to the contact surface of the pressure plate fingers?? just sayin'....... also looks like you've got some flex in your bracket. Might want to weld an angle brace to stiffen that up. Over time that could fatigue.
Yes..im going to get a piece of 3/16 angle iron I think or, gusset the one I have up.
I dont know..I know I have some issues to address and I will.. but it just feels weird . Hopefully I can get the release up about half way, now its just barely off the floor. That wont work for me
I adjusted the clutch rod nut to where its just lutsa little pressure on the clutch fork. Just for the hell of it..I adjusted it super tight to see if it mad a difference in clutch engagement off the floor.. it didn't.
I have an adjustable pivot ball on there now, that is suppose to be adjusted to. Stock foxbody length. I may try adjusting that to see if it helps any on clutch engagement off the floor

They are the same bore size.. f550 is what, 7/8 bore and so is the 280z slave..
but yeah, appreciate the input.

Hey Joe. Don't know how accurate you need to be with your setup but if you're using the F550 clutch m/c the bore is .709. That's the one that I'm using. I was told by Novak that, that size is compatible with their .750 slave cyl. bore. I'm not sure that matters to you but, there is an additional bore differential in yours if that 280Z is .875 . My differential is (.750 -.709). Assuming the strokes on the master cyl's and the slave cyl's are the same (mine are 1 1/2"L ea.) ,

mine is( v=3.14 x .125 x 1.5"L) = .588 cu. in. master/cyl. volume PUSHING ( v=3.14 x .140 x 1.5"L) = .659 cu. in. slave cyl. volume. OR 89% of equality

yours (if numbers are correct) would be .588 master PUSHING ( v=3.14 x .191 x 1.5"L) = .900 cu. in. slave OR 65% of equality.
I am by no means an expert at this but I'm thinkin you may be a bit undersized on the Master or oversized on the Slave?? Just sayin........

Hmmm!!! Thats some good info. From what Ive read and understood.. this is the combo a lot of people use. I read get a 280z slave, which was 3/4 or 7/8 bore like the f550 master..
Do you have your setup hooked up and running yet?

Well, I’ve got it mounted on a bracket I made of 1/2” steel and bolted to the bell house/block. I’m entering final stages of the 408 build so l have not yet mounted the 11” Centerforce package. The prolonged wait for parts has caused me to thoroughly research almost every component installed. I consider my project a “one off” build due to the facts that (1) there are none other like this to access detailed info from and
(2) I’ve never before done a total revamp of a vehicle, so I have been overly meticulous (according to friends) about everything I’ve done.
And, while I’m not driving down the street just yet, I have compiled and incorporated a lot of info and , if somebody asks , I can just share what I’ve researched. Such as the conversion to a hydraulic clutch system. I hope it helps, but then again no 2 builds are exactly the same.
Gotta tell ya, it’s a lot of work but it’s some cool shit, ain’t it?
