I put a brick on my lawn chair. I'm all set.

How are you folks down in Georgia and Florida doing? My sister is south of Savannah right on the coast and has a farm bigger than mine so she can't evacuate. She apparently rented 4 shipping containers in case things get really bad and the barn is not safe enough for the animals. They are in swampland so everything has to be set up on blocks and stilts. Half tempted to drive down there to help.

I took my mom from central Florida (Villages) on Wednesday. My sister is still there and will be until Wednesday. She says the stores are without any bottled water and most shelves are empty at the grocery store... lines at the gas station. Expect the worst... pray for the best.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I plan on evacuating to northeastern Ohio next week.

Well, ok. Maybe I should start paying attention to this thing just in case it does something crazy.

Hurricane season is a big deal for my family. It is a time of bonding and antagonism.

My uncle lives in central Florida. Every hurricane season he either ships his wife off her parents' place in Colorado, or she is mandated at the hospital. So he boards up the house and rides out the storm at home. Once the phones go out my grandparents start worrying about him. Once they start worrying I start laughing, because the man was a Green Beret and every years thousands of people without any of his training, skills, or physical fitness survive these storms.

They changed the track again, florida/ga is in for just a glancing blow not a direct hit. But the news is still hyping it. Watch your ass i guess.

Great. Headed my way for Thursday. No problem. They'll change it a few more times by then.

Last thing I checked had it making a direct hit on Savannah thursday, I got a flight tomorrow afternoon to help my sister prep. Doubt I'll get a flight back until after the storm. Should be a fun week. Her house is a fortress and they have 2 huge deisel generators but taking care of the animals when the property floods is a nightmare. Nothing like wading through 2 feet of water fighting off alligators to feed chickens....

Just feed the chickens to the alligators...
You don't have to fight them off if they're not hungry, and you don't have to feed the chickens anymore. Win-Win.

Had a busy yesterday putting up shutters at the hall and office at work.
Threw some sandbags down so the picnic benches wouldn't fly away. Tied up other benches, put away the pool furniture, prepped the generators and chainsaws, and cleaned up around the dumpsters for debris.
(I work at a mobile home, retirement community in Southwest Florida)
