In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I was being sarcastic, there is no way to really prepare for that. Generators and plywood on windows need not apply.

i heard over the weekend at least one dam was expected to let go.

Agreed, something that big you can only do so much... and there isn't much you can do.
Sorry. I didn’t sense the sarcasm. The Lake Lure dam was expected to fail. But it held. They were evacuating downstream of it.

it’s very rare for Hurricanes to retain that kind of strength coming this far inland to this area. Hugo, in 89 hit pretty hard up through Columbia, SC and towards Charlotte, NC. Normally, we just get heavy rain and moderate winds from hurricane leftovers. Mom’s rain gauge measure 13inches by mid morning on Friday. That’s extreme.

I know you have been thru a lot, I almost didn't post it like that because I was afraid it would hit wrong.

But I mean come on, when towns are getting washed away... there is no preparing for that.

I had a bunch of funky wind here a couple days ago. It managed to pop the umbrella for my deck table open... blew it out of the cement base... lifted it until it blew over and ruined the table. Small potatoes... but we get a lot of wind here... that shit was different.

So... I don't have dog in this fight. But watching the news... it's an absolute disaster for many.

This far north it's a ton of minor stuff. But my friend down in Asheville is experiencing a whole different story. No power is a given, but also no cell coverage if they did have an emergency (not that anyone could respond). He managed to get far enough away from the house on Saturday to get signal and send confirmation that they're hanging in. Not sure if they have running water, but I know he prepares well for SHTF situations.

"It's dark everywhere. We are prepped well but this will be my last trip out as grocery stores etc closed and I can tell a shift in people today. It's bad. Curfews already in place."

Hoping to hear again sometime in the next few days but who knows.

It's been nice here, too nice. It really feels like all the weather went somewhere else.

High 70's-low 80's and not a breath of wind. Rather unusual. Right now my truck says 82.

The remnants of it seem to have settled here yesterday and today. Nothing bad here, just annoying endless light rain…

Which doesn’t help with needing to fix the F-150. Or the welding that has to be done on the 88 and dad’s 99 (the F-150 is probably getting a welding repair, I’m not trying to do electric welding in the rain).

Maybe I can make some progress on editing videos and stuff…

It did. I know exactly where all the weather went over the past weekend.

Now that mom has electricity back, I feel relieved. Time to consider whether or not to take the camping trip I had planned later this week at Cass, WV. I need to call the campground and confirm. But I don’t think they were really affected by the hurricane. If so, I could get out of here and visit a normal place for a few days. There’s not a lot I can do around here. My internet service is still out even though I have cell phone service. I’m not really affiliated with any kind of relief organizations. So I’m not doing any good with that and can’t go into the heavily damaged areas. I could just get out of the way. It feels stressful being here, like being in limbo. I guess “surreal” may be the best word.

Hell, that even sounds tempting to me. If I didn't need to make some extra money instead of spending it, I'd be pricing plane tickets.

I camped through it in Louisville. I took my son Zane to the Louder than Life festival. All hotels and stuff were full. So we were able to land a primitive spot at a KOA about 14 miles south of the expo center. It was an outdoor festival with six stages going all day. The weather hit Friday. We decided to go wait it out inside the expo center which is a designated safe zone. That day we had wind gusts up to 70 mph and steady 20 to 30 mph winds. I was a little worried about leaving the campsite unattended, but that stuff can be replaced. Luckily the winds died off around 8 pm. They ended up canceling Friday for safety reasons. So we we decided to go back to camp. It held up, but can't say that for the rest of the campground. Luckily there wasn't no flooding are damage in the area.

On a different perspective. One of our local offroad shops are loading up trucks and trailers with supplies and heading to East TN and NC area to help with clean up. So if anyone in the middle TN or surrounding areas would like to donate or help. Please reach out to Mill Creek Overland in Nolensville TN. My local riding group is helping transport goods if you would like to donate cannot get it to the site. If you would like to donate you can either find Tennessee Dirt Road Devils on Facebook or you can message me here and i will get you more information.

Did you at least swing by to see if there was still more water in spaas Creek trail than in Spaas Creek creek? It was so perfect/beautiful when we were out there a month ago...
