Hub doesnt fit through center bore

I just swapped some wheels that had the same bolt pattern. The hub on the front wheels slid all the way through the center bore but the rear didnt. Is this unsafe to drive on?

A 1-1/2” spacer would help, I bought a pair to space out wheels in my wheel horse but before I put them on I tried them on the ranger with the extra escape rims I have. Same bolt pattern but small center hole. They would work with the spacer. I paid around $80 for the pair of spacers through jegs.

It looks like you need to take the grinder to the hole in the wheel; it's the bolts that hold the wheel in place not the axle.

I took a set of 14" 1994 Ranger wheels in trade, needed to grind out each one to fit over the 1987 BII's front hubs ..)

My buddy got this 1994 Ranger project we'll work on after we finished installing the suspension and black rhino wheels on the current Silverado project and clear the garage. The Ranger needs a new set of wheels. Good to hear a spacer for the rear could help on the fitment.

I don't like grinding on the center of wheels. For instance the wheel in the picture below. It has that raised lip around the hole where they punched it out and formed it. That gives a lot of strength to the wheel in that area and the area between the large hole and the lug nut holes. Grind it out and you lose that lip and the strength it provides.

That's probably unsafe to put the weight of the vehicle on, and certainly very unsafe to drive.

The best way to deal with it is to get a brake hone and clearance the center bore of the wheel until it can sit flat on the hub.

If you have to question whether your wheels are safe... They're not safe.

the axle flange has a "brake register". it's the part closest to the wheel surface. there is a narrow raised area that the brake drum goes over
which sticks out far enough that your wheels hit it and won't go all the way on.
that's why most wheels have a chamfer on the inside, to clear the brake register.
take a good look and see how much it sticks out. you may be able to grind a small chamfer into the rear of the wheel without cutting all the way thru the center.
or get some spacers, they probably won't need to be very thick.
